What is this Taj Mahal?

The Taj Mahal is said to have been a tomb built by King Shah Jahan in 1631 to commemorate the third wife of the Mughal emperor Mumtaz. The tomb is considered to be the main feature of the Taj Mahal building complex.

The Taj Mahal is located in the southern part of the city of Agra.About three acres of land has been leveled about 50 m (160 ft) above the river banks to prevent water leakage. Wells were dug near the monument and the foundations of the monument were laid with stones. It is said that about 20 km long slopes were used to transport garuda and about 20 ox carts to transport other materials.

Construction materials for the Taj Mahal were sourced from India and Asia. About 1000 elephants were used to transport the raw material.The translucent marble has been imported from Macrana and Rajasthan, the sunflower rocks from Punjab, the sapphires and crystals from China, the sapphires from Tibet, the sapphires from Afghanistan, the sapphires from Sri Lanka and the carnelian from Arabia.

The design has received various threats and has become a target of various terrorist activities. India has covered this design to protect it from these attacks.

The tourist attraction of this place is around 2-4 million visitors annually, out of which around 200,000 are foreigners. Most of these foreigners come during the cold months of February, October and November.The small town to the south of the Taj Mahal complex is known as "Taj Ganji" or "Mumtazabad". The park is open daily from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., and the church is open for prayers on Fridays from 12 noon to 2 p.m.
